Bio

Hello, I reside in Kentucky with my husband and our six children, ranging in age from 14 to 26. In addition, I have five grandsons and one granddaughter. As you can see, children definitely are my passion! I believe that students need caring environments in which to learn and grow. In addition, I believe in setting high expectations, which helps improve skills in areas where students are struggling, so they can feel more confident in school. I want to feel like I am making a purpose in their lives and helping them achieve the skills they struggle with in school, or helping them experience those 'ah-ha' moments. My tutoring goals are to help students learn new content, have fun while completing high-level and rigorous work, reflect on their own learning, and set goals for themselves. I am excited to begin this tutoring journey, and hope you will join me!

Teacher Specialization

I have 21 years of total experience in education, which includes teaching in grades one through six. I have also been a Reading Specialist, where I worked with intervention groups and coached classroom teachers with their reading goals in their classes. My degrees include a BS in Elementary Education, an MA in Elementary Education, a Rank I in Elementary Education, and National Board Certification in Literacy for Early/Middle Childhood. In addition to this, I am currently in the dissertation phase of my Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Sciences: Curriculum and Instruction/Literacy. As for virtual experience, I have three years of teaching experience. This is a different approach to teaching, but I truly enjoyed working with students in this way as well. It is a unique approach to building relationships, yet still an effective way to teach.
