Bio
Students learn best when their ideas, opinions and current knowledge is valued. I believe in a gradual release model of learning, in which new information is modeled, practiced together, practiced with support and ultimately practiced alone. I am committed to helping students reach their potential and becoe strong readers, critical thinkers and confident mathematicians. Building rapport and creating a safe space to take the risks required for growth is important to me. I want to connect with students in a way that lets them know that there is mutal respect and we are learning together. I love learning and am in a constant state of growth. I have taught in several different countries, and also teach and play pickleball. I'm an avid reader and enjoy sharing the love of books with children and adults. I became a tutor to bring confidence and foundational reading skills to everyone desiring to be a reader.
Teacher Specialization
I have taught elementary level foundational math and reading skills both in person and online for 20 years. I've also taught English and English as a New Language to all ages, including newcomers to the country. I hold degrees in Elementary Education (Bachelor of Science), Curriculum and Instruction: TESL(Master of Ed), and held National Board Certification in English as a New Language. Trained in the Science of Reading, I have extensive experience teaching foundational reading skills online.
