Bio
Hi! My name is Colette and I am so excited to meet you! As a teacher and individual, I am very positive and outgoing, growth mindset-oriented, and love to be active and outdoors. I strive to draw from my students' personal experiences and interests to create more engaging lessons and encourage deeper understanding. I believe education should be applicable to students' real world goals and circumstances, and I work to ensure each child feels valued and supported throughout the educational process.
Teacher Specialization
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education from Michigan State University with focuses in Social Studies, English, and Psychology, and a Master's of Education from Boston College with a focus in Secondary History. I have experience working with children of all ages and teaching experience with students grades 6-12. I believe in teaching to the whole student, establishing relationships and rapport that encourage student comfortability, accountability, and buy-in. I have taught high school English and Social Studies for four years, middle school Civics for one year, and have been a substitute teacher for two years while obtaining my Master's of Education degree. I really enjoy working with students individually and in small and large group settings and am looking forward to gaining greater experience tutoring online with you!
