Bio
My name is Cristina Laguna. Students learn best through hands-on, games, and project-based learning. I will provide feedback by being kind and telling them how to improve. I am patient and I try to build the child's self-esteem. I want to help the students be on grade level or above. I want them to be confident in the subject I am tutoring them in. I want them to have a growth mindset. My students like me because I listen to them and try to gauge my teaching to meet their needs and strengths. I like to cook and bake for my family. I speak English and Spanish. I choose to be a tutor to help students succeed without feeling the burden of keeping up with the whole class.
Teacher Specialization
I have taught for 22 years. I spent 4 years teaching Middle School Language Arts. At the elementary level, I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade. I have been self-contained as well as departmentalized to teach math and science. I have been a reading resource teacher and provided interventions in reading and math in elementary school. I also have been a science specials teacher to K-5. I have a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Masters in Reading Education. I am certified in Elementary Education with ESOL and Gifted Endorsement. I also have my Reading K-12 certification. I am also certified in Middle Grades English 5-9.
