Bio
Hello, My name is Elizabeth Szymanski. I believe that individualized instruction is highly effective in filling gaps children may have. I am a strong believer in the Science of Reading approach to literacy instruction. I believe kids can do hard things and need to be taught the power of YET. They may not know how to do it yet, but they can learn. Everyone starts as a beginner. When I am not teaching I am taking care of my 12 chickens, gardening, cooking, or at a Marching Band event. You will always find me with a good book within arms reach.
Teacher Specialization
I have been teaching for 15 years. I have taught many grade levels in both elementary and middle school. I have a Bachelor of Science in Education from Baker College with a concentration in Language Arts and a double minor in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education (highly qualified for Pre-K-2). My certification qualifies me to teach through 8th grade. I have experience at both elementary and middle school levels. I am currently studying for my Master's degree in Technology and Instructional Design at Western Governor's University. I speak polite Spanish (not fluent, but not a beginner either). I was a reading specialist at the elementary level and I have taught language arts across grade levels. I have had a lot of success with mathematics at the elementary level as well. I'm very good with helping students through struggles with using Microsoft applications such as Word and PowerPoint as well as Google apps such at Docs and Slides.
