Bio

Hello, I am both a math teacher and farmer who believes all students are capable of learning math and applying this knowledge to their life. The pace at which a student learns may be the item that makes each student unique. I enjoy helping students understand their material, engage in dialog with clarifying questions and growing in confidence from the interaction. Learning how to ask questions about what students do not know in a subject is a skill just as important as the material being learned. I have an ability to connect with reluctant math learners. Regardless of the level, students can become disenchanted with Math and I enjoy turning that opinion around by increasing confidence and knowledge base. Math is not a spectator sport and like any language or sport, practice is necessary in order to become proficient.

Teacher Specialization

I have 36 yrs experience teaching 7-12 Math both in the public and private (residential school) arena. Subjects include: MS Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and UHS Pre-Calc (SUNY Albany). These have all been taught at a variety of levels including NYS Regents. Degrees: BA in two majors: 1) math & 2) sec. ed. and MA in Math & Sec. Ed. Students I've worked with include but are not limited to: dyslexic, oppositional defiant, autistic, ACE, emotional trauma, homeless, ELL, and at-risk learners in addition to the main stream public student. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with students who "don't get it" quickly and can empathize. I know where those students are coming from. During Covid, I was a remote teacher for my public school. Outside of Covid, I've remotely tutored home instruction and suspended friends for years. As a retired Math Instructor, I am fortunate to be very flexible with my schedule and look forward to working with you.
