Bio
Hello! I'm Jamie, a professional writer and language arts teacher. I've worked with both native English speakers and language learners on grammar, composition, test-taking techniques, college essays, and effective oral expression. From narrative to rhetoric, argumentative to research to creative writing, I specialize in the written word. I was also a radio DJ for many years and produced my own podcast, interviewing musicians, artists, and writers. As such, I love working with students to hone their own interview skills, including active listening, note-taking, and informed oral expression. Strong communication is a durable skill, one that informs debate, public speaking, and professional writing. Having lived in the mountains for many years, I'm an outdoor enthusiast and former ski instructor. My rescue dog and I love hiking, wading in high mountain streams, and exploring the small towns of Colorado.
Teacher Specialization
I have a master's in creative writing and a professional teaching license in the state of Colorado. I have worked with middle school, high school, and college students in various English specialties, including language arts, English language development, reading strategies, creative writing, English composition, public speaking, storytelling, and PSAT/SAT prep. I also work with students to craft successful college admission essays, a creative passion of mine! I've taught virtually for more than a year as a full-time classroom teacher, and virtual and in-person teaching includes: * 8th - 11th grade language arts * English composition, college freshman * Intensive English Program, international university students * Creative writing and podcasting, high school students * College essay prep, high school seniors * English Language Development, high school and community college * Downhill skiing - children to adults!
