Bio

Hello! I live in a small rural town in Illinois with my husband and daughter, who is autistic. I have 4 cats that I adore. I love to teach, go to church, sing, play the piano, read, and cook. I have always loved learning and teaching! One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is building positive relationships with my students because through that, I'm able to connect their learning to their interests and abilities. It also allows them to feel comfortable and special. I love to have fun while learning! Laughter is good medicine! Learning is so rewarding when progress is being made, whether it's in small steps or big steps. Whether we work one-on-one or in a small group with others, we will pace the lesson to meet your needs. I will provide immediate meaningful feedback throughout your lesson, because much can be learned from our successes and our mistakes. I have found communication to be key in successful learning, and I look forward to working with you soon!

Teacher Specialization

I have taught kindergarten, 3rd grade, and special education K-12. I enjoyed all these different experiences very much because each gave me the opportunity to teach small groups where I could meet each child at their particular level and need. I love developing lesson plans and implementing them, often times changing them and adapting them as we work through a lesson based on the needs of the student(s). My passion probably lies in teaching reading which includes phonics, comprehension, fluency, and writing. I have completed classes in the Science of Reading. However, I enjoy teaching math, science, and social studies as well. I also have a Master's degree in special education so helping students with disabilities is also very much a part of my love for teaching.
