Bio
I am a veteran teacher with specialties in reading instruction, STEAM education, and working with English Learners. Recognized as District Teacher of the Year (2022) and Los Angeles County Semi-Finalist (2023), I bring proven results and a passion for helping every learner thrive. One of my favorite things to do is help students make connections between their learning and their world, allowing them to truly make the new information their own. That "a-ha" moment makes my heart sing. 📚🍎🏫🏆My teaching philosophy is simple: meet each learner at their level, create a safe environment, and make learning engaging and fun. I encourage questions, ideas, and mistakes to really solidify knowledge. I am prepared to help you unlock your child's confidence in learning. I am the tutor who blends the brain and the heart, building a solid foundation of skills with a genuine smile and joy for learning. I can't wait to meet you.
Teacher Specialization
The majority of my 28-year teaching career was spent in primary education, and I am really good at teaching reading fundamentals. Phonics, grammar, comprehension, and fluency are my niches. With a degree from the University of Southern California and years of professional development, I can teach any subject K-8 really well. I have extensive experience with: 🍎Virtual Teaching. I was instrumental in the development of our district online learning program at the outbreak of COVID-19. After the pandemic, I led a group of select, specialized teachers to continue building the program for the ongoing needs of our distance learners. 🍎STEM/STEAM. I was a founding staff member of our district’s first STEAM School of Choice, developing STEAM curriculum. I was a Lead Teacher for the district’s STEM curriculum. 🍎English Language Learners. I am both CLAD and TEFL Certified. 🍎Special Needs Students. I’ve worked extensively with students with ADHD, autism, and behavioral or emotional disorders.
