Bio
Hi! My name is Katelyn Naranjo, and I am so excited to parter with Stride Tutoring! Whether it's children (or adults), I am passionate about helping individuals reach their full potential and feel successful. I believe that all children learn differently and therefore instructional approach is crucial. I also believe that fostering a high self esteem amongst children has a direct correlation to their academic success. I work diligently to create a safe and encouraging space for young learners. I also show children that learning is FUN! I am creative and often include games and art in my lessons; I've even been known to act things out. In my personal time, I love being outside with my two boys; we are always looking for new adventures. I also love to eat ice cream and can relate almost any lesson to a bowl of Rocky Road! I once taught a unit on persuasive writing, where the end project was an essay intended to prove ice cream was more enjoyable on a cone than in a cup! (Mmm!)
Teacher Specialization
I taught (public school) 5th grade for 7 years before I had my children. (Specifically, I taught all subjects before the district departmentalized; then I taught Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science.) I have a degree in English, a K-5 teaching certification, and I am licensed to teach Middle School English. For the past 8 years, I've been working at an English as a Second Language (ESL) nonprofit, where I craft proposals for funding. I also volunteer weekly as an ESL teacher.
