Bio

Hello and welcome! I am so excited to be working with you! I have been a teacher for 12 years and absolutely love what I do! I have been both a classroom teacher and special education teacher at the elementary levels. I enjoy tutoring because of the small group of students, I am able to make relationships stronger and academic gains faster. I have found that keeping topics relevant, fun, and allowing for student input help make learning meaningful and increase engagement. I like to work with students to self-evaluate by having them reflect with a self-score. I will then share where I think they are and frequently I score students higher which boosts confidence! My favorite part of teaching is watching students master a skill that they may have struggled with. Year after year, principals comment on the positivity I bring to the relationships with my students. Having great rapport helps students to trust me, try when they think they will fail, and be comfortable asking questions!

Teacher Specialization

I love to teach students how to read and how to become successful in mathematics. I have been teaching for 12 years, I spent 8 years teaching first grade, 3 years in fourth grade, and 1 year teaching fifth! I currently teach 4th Grade Special Education. I am certified in the Phonics First Program which is an explicit phonics program and have a Master of Arts in Teaching Degree. I love watching young learners open the world of reading! When teaching math, I work with my students to ensure we find the right strategy to help them solve problems. We work through problems together and ensure that students feel confident in their own abilities. I love teaching students how to use their own strengths to tackle challenging topics. Most importantly, I want students to leave a session feeling that learning is fun!
