Bio
I believe students learn best when taught in a way in which they can interact and learning is tailored to the student. Pace and learning style are two things I like to focus on. I feel feedback should be immediate; creating a learning moment when it occurs not down the road when it is forgotten. I believe all students can learn, however each student is different as is the speed in which they learn. My goal is to see each student progress and gain confidence in their abilities through my guidance and to discover their strengths and learning style. As we work together, I like to learn about my students interests and culture and try to include those in their learning to create meaning. I am a mom to two dogs that recently moved to Georgia and I miss teaching! I like to fill my time making friends over coffee or dinner, traveling, and on days I wish to relax, you will find me in the pages of a book.
Teacher Specialization
While I am new to virtual teaching, I completed my Masters Degree online and spent the COVID years teaching virtually as part of my 10 years in education. I have had the privilege of teaching Grades 4 through 7 Reading, worked as a Dyslexia Therapist for Grades K - 5, and tutored high school students in summer school. My Bachelors Degree is in Social Sciences from the University of North Texas, and I have a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction - Focus on Literacy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. Additionally, I completed a two year, minimum 700 clinical hours of further education to obtain my Academic Language Therapy Certification and Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (TX) designation. My passion is helping struggling readers, especially dyslexics. I have been trained in MTA, Alphabetic Phonics, and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital's Turbo Start and Take Flight programs.
