Bio
Hi! My name is Lauren Carson, and I am so excited to be working with K12 Tutoring! I live in South Carolina, married to my husband, Ricky, and we have a 6 year old daughter, 2 pups, and 3 cats! In my spare time, I enjoy watching college football (Go Gamecocks!), Reading books, serving in my church, and going out on the lake. I believe students learn best with a teacher who has a fun personality that is willing to use multiple instructional strategies to best their students' needs. I am a huge believer in building positive relationships with my students; I want them to be excited about learning, but also trust that our sessions are safe, warm, and loving. While learning the core academics, I think it is important to also build skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, stamina, creativity, and oral communication skills. I think it important to build these skills at the same time as teaching the academics since they are life skills.
Teacher Specialization
I have a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina. I've spent my 14 years in public education all in 1st Grade, teaching all content areas: reading, phonics, writing, math, science, social studies, and SEL. Within those 14 years, I spent 2 of those years teaching virtually during the COVID time frame. Over the last 3 years, I have also become LETRS certified with the Science of Reading, as well as served as Mentor both for high school teacher cadet programs and collegiate level students. In April 2025, I received the Mentor Teacher of the Year with Winthrop University, and I also received Teacher of the Year in 2024-2025 for my most recent school. Lastly, I would also like to highlight that I have spent the last 2 years homeschooling my personal child.
