Bio

My name is Luisa. I was born in Cali, Colombia. I enjoy listening and dancing to Salsa music. I am an educator who is passionate about each of my students' language experience. I prioritize their learning needs and provide creative, engaging materials with a mix of grammar and culture for a well-rounded Spanish learning experience. Spanish learners not only obtain skills that will help them with Spanish content, but also transfer into their native language. Skills include but are not limited to reading comprehension, supporting details, critical thinking, and more. My goal is for my students to leave my session each day feeling more confident with their language skills. A student-centered approach is beneficial for learners to know they are the ones that matter most in the session. Our classroom is a sharing, safe, interactive, and engaging space where they will be able to express themselves and optimize on their learning strengths.

Teacher Specialization

I hold a B.A. in English Literary Studies and an M.A. in Secondary Education, with a 023 Spanish teaching certification. I began my career as a high school Spanish teacher and later became an adjunct Spanish professor at the University of Saint Joseph. I’ve also worked with students as a private tutor through Class Dojo and Tutor Doctor, supporting them in Spanish, English, reading, writing, and executive functioning.
