Bio
My name is Luz Miranda. I have worked as a bilingual teacher most of my career for Houston ISD and Katy ISD. I was nominated Best Bilingual Teacher of the Year in 2005 and 2010. I believe that every child can learn and succeed when provided with intentional, evidence-based instruction and meaningful support. I understand that reading challenges, including dyslexia, reflect differences in how students process language—not their intelligence or potential. My approach is structured, explicit, and multisensory, grounded in research aligned with the Science of Reading and structured literacy principles such as Orton-Gillingham. My tutoring goals are to strengthen foundational reading and writing skills, close learning gaps, and build fluent, confident readers. I build positive, trusting relationships with students by listening carefully, celebrating progress, and honoring each child’s unique strengths.
Teacher Specialization
I have 25 years of teaching experience. I have been working as a reading and dyslexia specialist for the past twelve years. I am a certified Bilingual teacher, ESL Teacher, Special Education Teacher and Dyslexia Specialist. I am trained on several dyslexia and reading intervention programs such as Reading by Design, Neuhaus, Esperanza for Spanish Language Learners, Build and Take Flight which are comprehensive evidence-based intervention programs developed by Scottish Rite for Children. They provide intensive, multi-sensory instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension to improve reading and writing skills. Since 2020 I have tutored students virtually. I offer high-quality virtual tutoring designed to be interactive, engaging, and personalized. Through structured digital tools, multisensory strategies adapted for online learning, and consistent communication, I ensure that students receive the same level of individualized support and connection.
