Bio

My name is Ms. Reyns. Prior to pursuing this venture in life, I studied Fashion Merchandising and Design in Switzerland and lived and traveled in Europe. After working business management and sales for years, I decided to accomplish a life-long dream of studying Linguistics. My interest in foreign languages and multi-cultural perspectives originates from both family background and self-studies in language and culture. The world is a fascinating place of various and interesting global perspectives. With students I enjoy engaging in discussions in all academic subjects as well as fostering growth in academic language, reading, and writing across the curriculum. During discussion and class time, I believe that respect for certain rules and behavior are essential to being able to learn effectively.

Teacher Specialization

My specialization in education and teaching lies in the development of academic language to augment growth goals across the academic curriculum. For the past 12 years I have been teaching ESL in a public school setting. My focus is making sure students understand the difficult academic language that is embedded within the various subjects. Many of the ESL/ELL methodologies and strategies work for all students progressing along the educational path. In order to comprehend subject matter, it is important to learn the specific academic vocabulary. Organization and study skills go a long way for students to be successful in school, however reading and writing about all subjects assists all students to learn the academic language, develop integral skills, and retain subject matter information. All of these factors lead to students being college and career ready for the path they chose in life. Virtual Education Experience K-12 & Adult Content Areas: ELA, Social Studies, Science, Math
