Bio
I am a passionate, dynamic, National Boards-certified, bilingual educator with 15 years of classroom experience, and I'm delighted at the opportunity to be a part of your educational journey! I was born in Maine, and I currently live in Oakland, California. I have a BA in Latin American Studies and an MA in Teaching, both from the University of Chicago. I have also worked as a teacher in communities as diverse as Maine, Chicago, Mexico, and Ghana. When I'm not in the classroom, I love to swim, cook, eat, and be outside. I believe that people learn best when they know what they are doing and why. With over 15 years of classroom and online experience, I am adept at creating a learning environment that is student-centered, responsive to your needs, inclusive of all learners, and joyful. As your tutor, I am committed to helping you meet your educational goals and have fun while doing it.
Teacher Specialization
I have taught in-person since 2009, and online and hybrid since 2020. My specialties are upper elementary and middle school (4-8) reading and writing, and working with English Language Learners and multilingual students. I'm also trained in anti-racist, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed teaching practices.
