Bio

Hi, my name is Stacey Miller-Cole. I entered the teaching profession in 1996 because I knew it was my calling. I believe students learn best in a structured, supportive environment with positive reinforcements. Feedback will include both praise and an honest assessment about areas of improvement. All students can learn and grow in knowledge; it may require varying amounts of effort and focus. My approach as a tutor is to build a personal connection and use sports as an analogy for learning. My goal is to build confidence in the learning process by providing skills and tips for learning. I believe this is best done by setting high yet attainable goals. It's important to connect with students by listening to their interests and areas where they experience success. Of the 5 major teacher styles (Inspirer, Tough Love, Innovator, The Pal, Unconventional), I have been described by former students as a combination. However, my primary styles are Tough Love and Inspirer

Teacher Specialization

Before retiring, the majority of my 29-year teaching career was spent at the high school level where I taught various subjects including biology, physical science and chemistry. My last 2 years were spent in the middle school setting. Like many educators, I was introduced to virtual education in 2020 during COVID. Although there many inconveniences, I accepted the challenge to explore online resources and relished the opportunity to engage students in the alternate format of the video classroom. I hold a Bachelors of Arts Degree as a Biology Major and Chemistry Minor from Anderson University (IN). My Masters of Science Degree in Secondary Education/Science was obtained from Mississippi State University-Meridian. I'm certified as a secondary teacher (7-12) in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, and General Sciences.
