Bio
My name is Alex Elkins, and I am a professional tutor and special education educator. I help students build academic skills, confidence, and independence through personalized, supportive instruction. I focus on setting clear, achievable goals, monitoring progress, and adapting lessons to each learner’s strengths, needs, and learning style. Building strong relationships is central to my work, creating a structured, encouraging environment where students feel safe asking questions, taking risks, and developing independence. I also collaborate closely with families to reinforce learning beyond tutoring sessions, ensuring progress is consistent and meaningful. My philosophy centers on meeting students where they are and helping them become confident, capable learners.
Teacher Specialization
I specialize in literacy instruction and special education across multiple grade levels, supported by a master’s degree in Special Education and five years of teaching and tutoring experience. My background includes teaching high school intensive reading, sixth-grade special education, and third-grade special education, where I provided targeted, individualized instruction aligned with IEP goals. A key accomplishment includes supporting over 70% of my third-grade special education students in making measurable academic gains by the end of the school year, earning school- and district-level recognition. I also have over three years of experience as an online tutor, working with learners from first grade through adulthood on reading, writing, and academic skill development. I focus on evidence-based literacy strategies, personalized support, and building confidence to help students make meaningful progress.
