Bio

Hello all, my name is Miss Angela. I currently live in northern most New York with my 16 yr old dog, Dozer (you'll meet him during one of our sessions). My teaching philosophy emphasizes making the material relatable for students. The "I do, We do, You do" method is a great way to guide students from modeling to independent practice. When lessons are tied to real-life examples, students are much more likely to grasp the concepts and retain them. Building genuine connections and treating students with respect creates a safe, supportive environment where they feel comfortable learning and making mistakes. When students see you as someone who has their best interest at heart, it’s easier for them to engage with the material and feel confident in their abilities. My goal as a tutor is helping students build essential skills. To guide them towards greater proficiency so that, one day, they will no longer need me and have the confidence and skill to continue learning on their own.

Teacher Specialization

I have been teaching for 22 years across grades K-6 and in 3 states; Florida, Virginia, and New York. I currently hold professional certifications in Virginia and New York. Though my professional career is 22 years, I have been working with youth since I was 15 (a very long time ago! lol) I was babysitting, volunteering with infants, toddlers and preschool at my church, and provided homework help for 6th-8th grade after school. I have taught all K-4 core subjects; 5th grade Reading, Math, and Science; and 6th grade Reading and Math. Like many educators during COVID, my virtual teaching experience was via Google Meet. To keep learning engaging and practical, my students and I conducted science experiments with materials they found around their homes and yards. In math, we explored area and perimeter using familiar objects such as kitchen tables, windows, and shoeboxes. Many of these activities I continue to explore with my in-person students!
