Bio
Hello! My name is Ms. Lam. I currently live in beautiful East Tennessee, but I grew up in California and Oregon. I love animals, especially horses and dogs, and I also raise chickens! I have 2 little boys who are teaching me all about Lego and Minecraft. I believe that all students can learn, but not all students learn the same way. As a child, reading and language arts came easily to me, but I really struggled in math because the way it was taught to me just didn't click. Now as a teacher, I love teaching math because I understand what it feels like to not "get it." When we work together, I'll find what clicks for you! Sometimes learning new skills can be frustrating, but I can help you develop a growth mindset and positive attitude about learning. I believe in focusing on strengths and building positive relationships so that students can feel comfortable and accomplished while working toward their learning goals. I'm looking forward to meeting you!
Teacher Specialization
I have been in the field of education for 20 years and hold a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education. I have taught students in elementary, middle, and high school, with a focus on students with learning differences such as autism, dyslexia, developmental and/or cognitive delays, and ADHD. In addition to teaching, I have also been a reading coach, inclusion specialist, department chair, school leadership committee member, and home/hospital teacher.
