I’m Leslie Mendoza, a karaoke-loving homeschooling mom who previously spent three years living and teaching ESL in Japan. Driven by the joy of seeing individual lightbulb moments, I became a tutor to give students the focused, supportive guidance they need to reach their full potential. I believe students learn best in an engaging, scaffolded environment where tailored instruction meets each learner's unique needs. My approach combines positive encouragement, interactive tech tools, and clear, standard-aligned feedback to build student confidence and core skills. My goal is to cultivate academic excellence in literacy while building student confidence, critical thinking, and engagement. I build positive, meaningful relationships with my students by fostering a patient, welcoming, and inclusive virtual environment where they feel valued and encouraged.

My extensive background in virtual education includes direct online teaching and targeted tutoring through multiple premier learning platforms. Throughout my career, I have taught students ranging from K–12 and early learners (ages 3–16) to adult corporate professionals, focusing on ELA, Reading, ESL, and specialized test preparation. My expertise is grounded in advanced academic credentials—holding a Master’s degree in Education (ELA) and a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education (English)—complemented by a state teaching credential and TESOL/TEFL certifications. I specialize in evidence-based literacy strategies, scaffolding, Total Physical Response (TPR), instructional technology integration, and creating highly engaging virtual learning environments.
