Bio
My name is Margaret Hockert. I enjoy reading, crafting and taking walks with my 2 dogs. I believe the best growth in learning occurs in a small group environment and tutoring provides that possibility. I think that students learn best when they are comfortable with their teacher/tutor and motivated. This is why I make learning meaningful by getting to know my students, so I can use their interests to make learning relevant. I like to help students establish goals and take time when we meet to evaluate progress. I also use creative tools to reinforce learning such as games, music, hand gestures and mnemonic devices. My main goal in tutoring is to help students feel confident so they can grow academically. I love helping create life-long learners with a growth mindset. No two students are exactly alike, so I learn students' strengths and areas of growth. I have seen students soar when they understand that everyone has areas of improvement and success in their lives.
Teacher Specialization
My specialization is K-6 all subjects. In my 19 years of classroom teaching I have taught Pre-K through 7th grade, with the most experience in grades 4 & 5. I have a degree in elementary and special education working with students on IEP's, 504's, and those receiving ELL & gifted/talented services.
