Bio

My name is Mercy Gitobu, I believe every student has the capacity to learn when provided with the right support, encouragement, and opportunities tailored to their individual strengths and needs. My teaching philosophy is rooted in creating inclusive, student-centered environments where learners feel valued, challenged, and empowered to grow both academically and personally. I strive to foster confidence and independence by helping students recognize their potential, build trust in their abilities, and develop the skills needed to take ownership of their learning. Equally, I am committed to inspiring lifelong learning by motivating students to view education as meaningful and relevant, nurturing curiosity and resilience that extend far beyond the classroom.

Teacher Specialization

I have been an educator for over 20 years, working extensively with students across middle school and high school settings. My primary teaching focus has been in mathematics, including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. Over the years, I have developed a deep understanding of how to support diverse learners and adapt instruction to meet their individual needs. In addition to classroom teaching, I have gained significant experience in virtual education through my work with home-hospital tutoring in my district, which is primarily conducted online. This role has strengthened my ability to create engaging, student-centered lessons that foster connection and growth in both traditional and digital learning environments. I hold two master’s degrees, Master of Science in Special Education and a Master’s in Education Administration, long with a BA in Psychology.
