Bio
Hello! I’m a passionate science educator with over 20 years of experience, instructing students from foundational courses to advanced topics. I believe every child can learn to his or her full capability when using research-based strategies tailored to their needs, and I genuinely care about their education and future success. Former students have described me as energetic, empathetic, and cheerful, while using humor and innovation to engage them. They also observed how serious I am about instruction so that they can master concepts and further their education. During my tenure as a teacher, I founded STESS, Seeking the Extra Support in Science, an after-school program aimed to build confidence and understanding. I’ve received several awards including Teacher of the Year (3X), STAR teacher award, Lula Bass Teacher Scholarship, Teacher of the Month, PAGE ONE nominee, Principal’s Teacher Award of Excellence, and the Coca Cola Space Science Scholarship.
Teacher Specialization
I hold a Bachelor’s in Health Science and a Master’s in Education from Columbus State University, and an Education Specialist degree from Georgia Southwestern State University. Although I've taught basically all sciences, I specialize in teaching Biology and enjoy making learning interactive and meaningful. In online tutoring, I use various digital tools such as the drawing tool to help students visualize complex processes such as meiosis. I encourage collaborative, high engagement learning, while working together with students to explore concepts. I support different learning styles with color coding, concept mapping, and kinesthetic activities. I am professionally certified to teach Science (grades 6-12), Middle Grades Science, Math, and Social Science (grades 4-8), Earth/Space Science (grades 6-12) and Reading. My goal is to build understanding, confidence, and a lasting curiosity for learning in every student.
