Bio
Hi, I’m Ryan Luz. I have ten years of classroom teaching experience as a middle and high school teacher here in San Diego. My teaching philosophy is grounded in relationships — I believe everyone learns best when they feel safe, heard, and supported. I focus on building trust, helping students develop confidence, and approaching challenges with curiosity rather than stress. I graduated from University of San Diego with a BA in Interdisciplinary Humanities and a Masters of Fine Arts for Creative Writing from UC San Diego. During my time in schools, I taught English, writing, humanities, social studies and social-emotional learning, mentored new teachers, and led programs to support student well-being. My teaching style is calm, patient, and encouraging. I adapt to each student’s needs and aim to make learning feel meaningful and manageable. Whether we’re working on academics, motivation, or organization, I’m here to support the whole student.
Teacher Specialization
I’ve spent over 15 years in education, with over 10 years as a middle and high school teacher here in San Diego, with extensive experience in both in-person and virtual learning environments. I’ve worked with students from grades 6–12 across a range of subjects including English, creative writing, humanities, social studies, and social-emotional learning. I hold a BA in Interdisciplinary Humanities from the University of San Diego and a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from UC San Diego. My specializations include building strong relationships with students, supporting confidence and motivation, and helping learners find meaningful engagement with their work. I bring a creative, calm, and encouraging approach to tutoring, with a particular love for writing, storytelling, and helping students connect to their own voice and potential.
