Bio
Hi! My name is Sharon Meacham and I've been a teacher for over 20 years! Before that I worked for Nets basketball and Major League Soccer - but none of that was as exciting as witnessing that a-ha moment when something clicks for a student and new learning happens. I believe kids learn best when they are actively engaged in learning, feel safe and supported, and know they can make mistakes. In fact, I LOVE mistakes! Did you know your brain actually gets stronger when it struggles a little bit? And the great thing is, you hardly notice the struggle when you're too busy having fun. Let's play games and create stories and solve problems! And I might even introduce you to my two pups, who like to supervise during lessons :)
Teacher Specialization
In my 20+ years as an educator I have worked in both public and private schools and have been lead teacher in grades 1-5, a reading coach for teachers of grades K-2, and a literacy specialist for K-5. I love learning and have been trained in Orton Gillingham, Wired for Reading, and Bridges Math, among others. I graduated from Duke University with a BA in English and got my Masters of Education from Lehman College.
