Bio
Hi, my name is Jess Phelps, and I am a professional educator with over 20 years of experience. I tutor all subjects for grades K–8, helping students build strong academic foundations, improve organization and confidence, and feel successful across all academics and study skills. I adapt my teaching to each student’s learning style and pace, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging with learning. Mathematics is a particular area of expertise for me, and tutor secondary mathematics, including pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry. I specialize in breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps and helping students understand the why behind the math, not just the steps. Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing the piano, staying active, spending time with my dogs Lubi and Henry, and connecting with students through shared interests. My goal is always to help students feel confident, capable, and supported in their learning.

I have been a professional educator since 2004, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a Master of Arts in Education in K–12 Leadership and Curriculum, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership. I worked in both public and private school settings from 2005 through 2014, before transitioning into online education. Since 2014, I have taught mathematics in virtual learning environments and currently work as a private mathematics tutor both online and in person. I specialize in supporting students who struggle in math by breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps that support understanding and build confidence.
