Bio
My goal in tutoring is to help students feel more confident in themselves and their ability. This is achieved by helping students to build confidence and demonstrate their capability. Students feel comfortable with teachers that are approachable for questions, no matter the number of times it's asked. They want a teacher who sees when they are struggling without being called out or belittled. Finally they look for someone who takes an interest in them and understands when they are uncomfortable with specific topics in/at school. Students learn best when met where they are academically; missing skills are practiced before the grade level skill. Students need continuous, clear, and concise feedback through every step of a skill before independent practice with prompt feedback after. I have temporarily stepped away from teaching to be at home with my 2 wonderful daughters, with a third on the way. I have many things I love to do such as video games, reading, cross-stitch, and crocheting
Teacher Specialization
My teaching license is for 5-12th grade broad field social studies, history, and alternative education. My alternative education licenses allows me to teach all subjects in alternative settings for grades 5-12. I have over 10 years of teaching experience across diverse educational settings, including urban schools, at-risk students, alternative education programs, Montessori, and home school environments. I have worked with whole classes, small groups, and one-on-one, adapting lessons to meet each student’s unique needs. I spent 6 of my 10 years working heavily with struggling learners and have developed a process for identifying areas of strength and work in progress. I tutored/taught virtually during the Covid shut down.
