Bio
My name is Lisa Parry, and I live in Fresno, California. I became a tutor because I enjoy working with students and seeing them achieve and exceed their academic goals and grow in confidence. Everyone learns at a different pace and in different ways. When working with students, I find the best way to make gains is to ask what works for them and what they already understand. Building on skills they have increases confidence, gives students some control over how they learn, and assists them in advocating for themselves in the classroom. As a tutor, I aim to assist students in seeing that they can learn and understand the material. Thinking critically and seeing a problem from more than one angle assists students academically and socially. Getting to know students as individuals helps to create meaningful lessons and build trust between the student and teacher. When students know you care about them, they will likely accept challenges more readily. I am a photographer and avid reader.
Teacher Specialization
I have taught in the resource and special education settings for over ten years. In this position, I worked with students from kindergarten through 12th grade with various academic needs. I created accommodations and lessons to meet each student at their level and assist them in meeting and exceeding their grade level goals. I have a Masters in special education from NAU. I am working on my doctorate through Grand Canyon University, emphasizing curriculum and instruction.
