Bio
My name is Mrs. Tanjarae (Tan-juh-ray) Porter, and I believe students thrive when learning feels joyful, clear, and connected to their needs. My philosophy centers on making every child feel capable and seen. I use ongoing data (formal or observational) to shape lessons that support growth, build confidence, and meet students exactly where they are. My tutoring goal is to create meaningful literacy experiences for beginning and struggling readers, helping them strengthen fluency, comprehension, and critical thinking. I blend movement, arts integration, and research-based reading practices to make learning engaging and memorable. Relationships matter deeply to me. I build trust through transparency, celebrating glows and gently naming areas for growth so students understand their progress and feel proud of it. I honor each child as a whole human, making space for their curiosity, voice, and joy.
Teacher Specialization
I am a 15+ year educator with experience in public and charter schools, specializing in K–12 Dance Education and literacy instruction. I hold degrees in K–12 Dance Education and Reading Specialist, with specializations in early childhood literacy, culturally responsive teaching, and arts-integrated learning. I’ve taught K–5 ELA, reading intervention, and movement-based instruction in both in-person and virtual environments, including K–3 online tutoring in phonics, comprehension, and writing. I design inclusive learning experiences that center creativity, rigor, and belonging, and I facilitate professional development to help educators implement arts-integrated and movement-based strategies across K–5 classrooms and virtual settings.
