Bio

Highly effective tutoring relationships are built on respect and trust between the tutor and the student and working together as a team. Asking tutoring clients how they are doing and spending a couple of minutes checking in each session helps develop that relationship and then using positive and encouraging words throughout the session reinforces it. Everyone is different and it's important to identify and play to each individual's strengths to help them be more successful. One of my favorite ways to evaluate whether my instruction was helpful or to identify what a child knows or doesn't know is to have my client teach me the material. Lastly, I believe that it's important to not only teach my students the subject matter, but to also teach and encourage my students to identify and seek out other resources (parents, teachers, friends, texts, websites, etc.) to support them and help them remain successful long after they are done tutoring.
