Bio
Hello! My name is Mrs. Newton and I am thrilled to begin this journey of learning with you and your child. I love my job as an educator because seeing children learn and develop confidence reinforces my own joy as a learner. I believe students learn best when they feel safe, valued, and supported. I work to help students take control of their own learning by using student friendly learning targets, and explicitly showing them how they will know when they have mastered their goals. I work to provide individual supports that allow each child's natural desire to learn rise above any barriers they are facing. Customizing lessons as a tutor that reflect your child's strengths and interests allows me to best support your child, and ensure they remain engaged and excited to learn. I enjoy cooking and reading in my spare time, as well as camping and fishing with my husband and our Goldendoodle.
Teacher Specialization
I have been an elementary school teacher for the last 12 years, and am starting my second year as a virtual teacher. I have taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade, and enjoy every unique thing about each level of learning. Teaching multiple grades has allowed me to see what students need to master to be successful as they move through their elementary journey, and to understand when students might have gaps in their learning - which we can work on together! I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, as well as a Master's Degree in Education. I also hold endorsements in English as a Second Language (ESL) and Early Childhood education. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know your child and support their learning at K12 Tutoring. Teaching virtually has prepared me to know and understand how to use the most effective tools and strategies to connect individually with each student. I look forward to getting to know your child and to making that same connection.
