Bio
My name is Carol and I enjoy reading, traveling, knitting and playing sports. I played Division 1 college basketball and made it as far as the Elite 8. I have become a tutor because I enjoy sharing what I know with others. My unique training allows me to help young emerging students learn basic building blocks for reading, writing and math as well as more complex integrated projects with older students. I have taught or coached almost all grades and ages from 1st grade through adults. I also enjoy working with students that may have learning disabilities, student/athletes or other students that may need help with time management and other executive function skills. I think students learn best when tasks are broken into smaller pieces and can have a real-world context. I like to make activities fun and relatable so they will be memorable, that might be a rhyme or a song or memorable activity I want to relieve student frustration and celebrate all victories!
Teacher Specialization
I have a master’s degree in education and am certified to teach K-8 with a Special Education endorsement, Science endorsement, and a TEFL certificate. I have worked for 11 years in various elementary and middle school settings in Washington and California, as well as serving as a K-8 science specialist. I have also volunteered as a tutor with (adult) students working on ESL and GED and TEAS test prep. I have always enjoyed sharing my skills and knowledge in wide variety of learning environments and am excited about the opportunity to help students achieve their goals.
