Bio
I believe some of the brightest students are the ones who have learned to believe they aren't good at school. As a certified K–8 teacher with a year of classroom teaching experience and more than 10 years of substitute teaching experience, I’ve worked with children across many grade levels, abilities, and learning needs. Some of my most meaningful work has been with students with learning disabilities and those who struggle with traditional instruction. I’ve learned that when a child doesn’t understand something the first way it’s taught, the answer isn’t always more repetition. It may be a different approach. I especially enjoy finding that approach. My tutoring style is patient, creative, and encouraging, with individualized support in reading, phonics, writing, math, and science. My goal isn’t simply a better grade, it is helping a child reach that wonderful moment when “I can’t do this” becomes “Wait, I think I get it”!
Teacher Specialization
I am a certified K–8 educator with more than 10 years of experience in education and a professional background in science, allowing me to make challenging concepts accessible while bringing meaningful, real-world STEM connections into the classroom. My experience includes substitute teaching and one year as a classroom teacher in a multi-grade setting. I have taught and tutored students both in person and virtually across reading, phonics, writing, math, and science, with a particular interest in supporting students with learning disabilities through individualized instruction. I hold a B.A. in Geography and Environmental Studies and have completed graduate coursework toward a Master of Applied Science in Environmental Policy. I also earned a certificate in Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding from the prestigious Virginia Institute of Marine Science and worked professionally in science and aquaculture, including oyster hatcheries and research.
