Hello, my name is Mr. Poling. My teaching philosophy is simple. If math is meaningful and fun, anyone can learn it and master it. I believe that if I start with ideas that you know and understand and build off those, you will understand more challenging math easier. My goal for your tutoring session is to show you that math is fun and understandable and can be learned by everyone. Most students that take my class end up loving math by the end. I like to build relationships with all my students because it helps me know how to best help them. The better I know you, the more I can cater the learning to your interests. We will have a great time and you'll learn a lot. I am the only teacher at my school that has achieved 100% passing rate and I've done it 3 times... in math.

Teacher Specialization

I have been teaching for 8 years now. I have taught math to grades 6 through 9. I have two Bachelor Degrees (Political Science and Economics) and a Masters Degree in teaching math. I have worked for Stride/K12 as a virtual teacher since 2020 and have had a lot of success in teaching on online platforms. My favorite part of teaching online is when I get to work with one student, or a small group of students, outside of the main class. This allows me to personalize my lessons for each student. I have taught 6th grade math for 3 1/2 years, 7th grade math for 5 years, 8th grade math for 1 year, and I spent just under a half of a year teaching High School Algebra. I specialize in building connections between what you already know and what you're trying to learn. Math is the only real subject that builds on itself every year. I help students take what they've learned in the past as a launch pad of understanding.
