Bio
I believe that a good education leads to a good life, not just in the ability to earn a good living, but in the ability to commune with the great minds of humanity and make sense of the world we live in. I can’t promise my students will have fun, but I can promise my students will learn and gain skills they didn’t have before. Whether or not education is fun, it is always rewarding. The reward you get is one I will help you create. While my specialty is literacy, I am adept at teaching all subjects. People have accused me of having a sense of humor. They say it shows up in my teaching. They're probably right. While I do lighten the mood sometimes during a tutoring session, I am serious about education.
Teacher Specialization
I taught elementary school in and around Detroit, Michigan for 32 years. In those 32 years I taught all subjects in grades 2-5. I taught in a virtual school for two of those years. My undergraduate degree is from Michigan State University. I earned my Masters of Education in Teaching from Wayne State University in Detroit. I gained expertise in phonetic reading instruction from Southern Arkansas University. I've continued my education in education even further with instructional math classes from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I’ve specialized as a literacy tutor (reading, writing, and spelling), both in person and online, for 22 years. I’ve also tutored students in math and other subjects. I’ve tutored children and adults. Sometimes adults need help too.
