Bio
I'm Lauren Jolly, a literacy specialist with 16 years teaching in Oregon and California, including work with English Language Learners and training as an IB Primary Years Programme educator. I enjoy reading, hiking, and snowboarding with my husband and sons, both of whom are deaf and hear with Cochlear Implants. I became a tutor because I've seen how a child's academic identity shapes their confidence and curiosity on the whole. I believe in explicit, differentiated instruction paired with feedback that helps students see their growth, not just their errors,delivered with high expectations and genuine warmth. My goal is to build strong academic skills alongside critical thinking and creativity, so students grow into confident, independent thinkers. I create a supportive space built on trust and curiosity, where every student feels seen, valued, and safe to take risks and grow.
Teacher Specialization
I specialize in structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham), reading intervention, and Designated ELD, delivering instruction in person and online across whole group, small group, and 1:1 settings. My expertise spans letter formation, phonics, fluency, and comprehension, built through roles as an RTI Coordinator and Literacy Coach designing school-wide intervention systems. As an MTSS Coordinator, I used UDL to support Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction and coordinated data-driven progress monitoring across grade levels. I bring specialized training in SDAIE, GLAD, and SIOP strategies for English Language Learners, plus extensive Project-Based and inquiry-based learning experience as an IB Primary Years Programme adult educator nationwide. In my most recent teaching in Grade 2 part-time, I blended research-based literacy practices with Responsive Classroom and Second Steps to build students' academic skills and social-emotional growth.
