Bio
Hello. My name is Marlene Mazzola and I am so happy to be teaching students in K12Tutor. I have taught reading in public, private and hybrid schools as well as in private tutoring sessions. My teaching style is supportive, engaging and interactive with much encouragement and positive reinforcement. Students learn with me in an environment that they feel is safe to take risks and make mistakes. I am very passionate about teaching my students to become skilled, confident and motivated readers. I myself am an avid reader and I really love using all of my knowledge and experience to instill an enjoyment of reading in others.
Teacher Specialization
I am a certified Reading Teacher with over 26 years of experience. My education consists of a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education/Psychology and a Masters Degree in Reading Instruction. I have experience teaching reading virtually for 2 years in public school and private tutoring sessions. I specialize in teaching phonics, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary and strategies for reading for meaning. Focus for young learners include foundational reading skills of phonological awareness, decoding and encoding, print concepts, sight words and comprehension. I also specialize in assessing students' needs, planning and carrying out instruction to meet those needs. Students are continuously progress monitored for achieved skills and skills still needed for reteaching. Clear, consistent communication and feedback as well as resources are given to parents to support learning continuity at home.
