Bio

Hello! I am Mr. Sal Barrett, a licensed English teacher and published poet who encourages curiosity as we discover all the lessons life has to offer. In our sessions, I will follow a gradual release model where I answer your questions, we practice skills together, and then you have the opportunity to adopt ownership of your growth-oriented goals while I continue to check in about your progress. Your interests, experiences, and strengths are unique to you, so we will take the time to understand what makes learning click for you. I navigate life with a learning disability and therefore want to share my own insight about study supports. I believe that there is always a new way to approach a challenge with confidence! Let's work together to strengthen your academic motivation and find a personalized study routine that fits you beyond our tutoring sessions and into any learning environment. I am excited to learn together!

Teacher Specialization

Since 2024, I have taught English Language Arts (ELA) to students with a range of academic support needs in public school classrooms, developing and implementing growth-oriented daily ELA lessons that strengthened students’ reading comprehension and writing abilities. Since 2023, I have mentored 14 undergraduate university students from a variety of academic backgrounds multiple times per week, specifically empowering students with learning disabilities through cognitive science-backed one-to-one academic support in executive functioning, goal setting, retrieval practice, study strategies, and time management. My prior experience collaboratively planning and leading ELA lessons along with a special education teacher has strengthened my proficiency at tiered support in the classroom. I implement and document the use of Individualized Education Program plans and 504 plans through scaffolded differentiation, environmental accommodation, and assignment modification.
