Bio
Hi! I’m Shelly Eckenrode, a Texas-certified mathematics educator with over 11 years of experience helping students build confidence and succeed in math. I have taught students from 5th grade through high school, including instruction in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, and Precalculus. I earned my BA in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin, along with a BA in Economics, graduating with honors. My teaching philosophy centers around individualized instruction and relationships. I especially enjoy working with students in small groups because I believe smaller student-to-teacher ratios create an ideal environment for learning. They allow me to better understand how each student thinks, identify areas of confusion, and adjust instruction to meet individual needs. As a teacher, I am patient, caring, and encouraging. Nothing makes me happier than watching a student gain confidence, understand something that once felt difficult, and realize their own potential!
Teacher Specialization
I hold Texas teaching certifications in Mathematics for Grades 4–8 and 8–12 and have classroom experience teaching nearly every level of math from 5th grade through Precalculus. I believe this breadth of experience allows me to uniquely support students at a variety of levels. For younger students, I understand the foundational concepts they need to master for future success in mathematics and can help them see where those concepts are leading. For older students, I recognize the skills and concepts they should have learned previously and can readily identify and address gaps in their understanding.
