Bio
Hello! I'm Wendy McCart, and I believe students learn best when instruction is adapted to their individual needs and builds on their strengths. I provide meaningful feedback that helps students understand their progress and view mistakes as opportunities for growth. My goal is to help students strengthen academic skills while developing confidence, critical thinking, and independence. I strive to create learning experiences that encourage curiosity, perseverance, and a love of learning. Positive relationships are the foundation of effective learning. I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and celebrating progress. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, crocheting, other crafts, and serving in my community. I chose tutoring because I enjoy helping students overcome challenges and discover they are capable of success.
Teacher Specialization
I have more than 20 years of experience teaching in public schools, private schools, online classrooms, and through homeschooling. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of North Texas and am a Texas-certified teacher. I was honored to be named First-Year Teacher of the Year in Lewisville ISD in 2005. My experience includes elementary reading, phonics, writing, math, science, and social studies. My reading instruction emphasizes explicit, systematic phonics and Science of Reading principles. I have completed Science of Reading training and developed extensive phonics expertise through teaching first grade, homeschooling, and supporting my own children with dyslexia. I also hold TEFL and TESOL certifications and have experience supporting English language learners and students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and executive functioning challenges.
